Back to the Bay

Last week I went back up to the Bay Area for work.  I was there for a couple days, then went to Tahoe for a Bachelorette, then came back for a few more days.  It was really fun to be back in the Bay, work in the office, go to court and see some of my favorite friends.

Air mattress, blogs and wine in a keg cup = high class!!

View from our gorgeous house

We did a tasting at Truckee Winery and loved it!

Jaclyn and I had matching rompers!

We went out on a pontoon boat.  Some of us decided to brave the rope swing.

After the bachelorette, I had to go back to the city to go to court and take a couple of depositions.
Back in a suit #ootd
After a week of driving, working and celebrating I sure was happy to be home in sunny SoCal!!  All the more reason why a relaxing weekend with my brother was in order.

Weekend Review

Last week was crazy!  I went to the Bay Area for a week for work. I drove up the Thursday before last, went to Tahoe over the weekend for a bachelorette and then came back to SF for work and then drove back to LA after that.  Lots of driving!! I'll post about that next, but for now, a little bit about this weekend!

This weekend my brother came home to visit. He brought his girlfriend, her mom and her brother with him. It was sooo much fun!!

My girls missed their Uncle Marc ;)

Friday we all went out to an amazing Italian dinner.  My brother's girlfriend ran into the Kardashians in the bathroom.  Needless to say, it was a good night haha!

Saturday we spent the whole day in the pool eating and drinking.  Not bad, aye?

A few thoughts on dating...

I have been single for 10 months now.  Since then, I have dated casually, but I have not dated seriously.  I hadn't been single in 8 years and guys, let me tell you, things sure have changed!!

A lot of my closest girlfriends have recently become single as well and we are all noticing the same things.  Here are a few of our observations:
  • Men don't call women anymore (seriously!?)
  • Men think it is ok to date you for a bit and then engage in what we call "the phase out" where they progressively just stop talking to you with no explanation (what's with that? a text saying "im just not that into you" would suffice!)
  • People hook up too quickly;
  • People don't go on real dates anymore;
  • Men date a lot of women at once and often think they can do better (ahem, Tinder); and,
  • Dating is really hard.
What I have come to learn is that men get away with all of this because we let them.  If we want more, we have to stop showing them that they can blow us off, phase us out, not make time for us and still have space in our lives.

We have to believe we deserve more than this.

Anyone else love the quotes section of pinterest?!

I am totally guilty of letting men do this to me and then blaming myself when it doesn't work out.  I think it is a symptom of insecurity.  I like to think I am a pretty confident woman, but I guess we all have our insecurities, right?

This article attributes it to the idea that women are told that they are not complete without a man.  This is probably true and I don't necessarily agree that it is wrong.  I like to think that someday I will meet "the one" that will complete me.  I also like to think that I can do that while still being confident and secure.  Maybe that is wishful thinking? I certainly am a hopeless romantic.

I don't know!  What do you guys think? What have you guys learned about dating?  Have you found some of this to be true in your dating life?

When in doubt, there are always soccer players to stare at!  ;)

Weekend Review

This weekend was really relaxing.  Friay night I went to dinner at Sunny Spot in Venice with my two best guy friends, Brian and Elex.  The food was amazing and the company was even better.  We realized as we were leaving that we had been there chatting and eating for 3.5 hours!!

Delicious cocktail

Me, Brian & Elex

Saturday I slept in, went shopping and worked on my Book Club book by the pool (rough life, I know).

Sunday I went to Saddle Ranch on Sunset to watch the World Cup Final with friends.  It was really fun to watch the game with friends since I had watched pretty much every other game alone!  We drank bottomless bloody mary's, ate bad for you bar food and had a great time!

PS- does anyone think Barry Sloane (Aiden Mathis from Revenge) looks A LOT like Messi!!??

Life Lately

Remember this post when I talked about just cruising when I got to LA?  Well guys, this lady has been cruising! I have spent a lot of time at the pool and the beach and I am not complaining.  I really do miss blogging so here's to blogging by the pool!

In the meantime, here is a bit of that I have been up to...

Shiran, Jess, me, Megan

Me with Shiran's nephew.  I LOVE babies!

I have been getting out around town trying to do some local hikes.

I have been loving the World Cup.  Too bad both my teams are out (Belgium and the US).
Vertonghen.  He plays for Belgium.  He doesn't know it yet but he is my soulmate.  Too bad he is younger than I am, lives in Belgium and has a girlfriend (which I know about from stalking his instagram), but love conquers all, right?!

Lots of fun, summer nails!

First LA Book Club meeting.  It was so fun bringing these ladies together.  This month (July) we are expecting even more new ladies!!  It is amazing how one email can turn into this!

Blogger friend turned real life bestie, Cara, came to visit me in LA!!

Guys we went to a local bar and let me just say, we tried to be open-minded but we felt SO old and I am only 28.  No joke, there was a girl there celebrating her 21st.  We left immediately.

QT with sweet Brussy poo.

My favorite summer dessert, Fruit Pizza!! So yummy!

4th of July Brunch

Followed by beach

It wouldn't be a SoCal summer without watermelon!

My dad and I went on a movie date to see Chef.  Naturally, when it was over we were starving.  This is what happened next.

I got a nasty bee sting that got infected.  I had to go to the doctor.  5 days later my arm still hurts and I am on steroids and antibiotics.  "F*ck Bees! I punch bees in the face!" (Dane Cook anyone?!)

How sweet are these two?
